A query regarding a du’a to recite when missing the deceased

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

What is the reference for this du’a?

When you miss the deceased read:

اللهم اني اشتقت الي روح لن تعود فاجعلها من اهل الفردوس

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any Hadith source, primary nor secondary.

However, the meaning is correct and could be recited on condition that a person does not regard it to be a Sunnah du’a.

Translation:

O Allah! I am missing a soul that will never return, so make it from the people of [Jannatul] Firdaws.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
