Imam Abu Dawud’s (rahimahullah) book; Al Marasil

Question

What is the status of the Hadiths found in Al Marasil of Imam Abu Dawud?

What commentaries are there on this book?

Answer

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has collected approximately 544 narrations in his book Al Marasil. As the name of the book suggests, the Tabi’i has omitted his source in [most of] these narrations.

The Hadiths he has cited in this book will have to be inspected individually. It is not possible to pass a blanket ruling. (Having said this, the annotators of one edition have mentioned that most of the chains in this kitab are reliable to the Tabi’i- غالبها مما صحّ اسناده الى مرسله-)

I am unaware of any commentaries that are found for this kitab.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
