Applying henna on sore legs

Question

Is there any Hadith that states one should use henna on sore legs?

Answer

Yes, Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Sayyidah Salma, the servant of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordered those who suffered from headaches to undergo cupping and he advised those who suffered from some pain on their legs to apply henna on them.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3854)

The commentators explain that henna has cooling properties, which will bring relief to the soreness and pain. Although the Hadith specifically mentions soreness in the legs, ‘Allamah ibn Raslan (rahimahullah) states that this equally applies to soreness in any limb.

(Sharh Ibn Raslan, Hadith: 3858)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
