A narration explaining the lengthy lifespans of the nations of the past

Question

Is this authentic?

إن كان الرجل ممن كان قبلكم ليأتي عليه ثمانون سنة قبل أن يحتلم

Answer

Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Musnad Bazzar; Al Bahruz Zakkhar, Hadith: 2474)

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators reliable with the exception of one narrator and has mentioned that there exists a difference of opinion regarding his credibility. (رواه البزار، عن شيخه عمرو بن مالك، وثقه ابن حبان وقال: يخطئ ويغرب، وتركه أبو زرعة وأبو حاتم، وبقية رجاله رجال الصحيح)

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8  pg. 135)

The narration is suitable to quote as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) said: “A man from the nations before you, would reach eighty years old before experiencing a wet dream.”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
