Isal-thawab (dedicating reward) for the living

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is there a Hadith regarding conveying Isal-thawab to those who are living?

Answer

Up to seven different Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) have reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wa sallam) slaughtered two sheep on the day of ‘Eidul Adha. One of them he slaughtered on behalf of his Ummah. In some narrations this is reported to have been a habit of Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)

Rasululullah’s (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) word’s were:

O Allah! This one is on behalf of those in my ummah that have professed your tawhid (oneness)

This Hadith is recorded in several Hadith books, like:

Sunan Abi Dawud, Sunan Ibn Majah, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Musnad Ahmad etc.

Refer to Nasbur Rayah, Hadith: 4715-4724.

The above includes all Muslims, those who were living, who had died by then and those to come.

Also see Al-Hidayah, vol.1 pg.296.
