Kindly inform me if there is a Hadith which states “If a man gives his wife something to drink he will be rewarded.”
Answer
Yes, this is a Hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah). Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration with two chains.
Sayyiduna ‘Irbad ibn Sariyah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When a man gives his wife something to drink, he will be rewarded.” Sayyiduna ‘Irbad (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, ‘I went to [my wife], gave her [water] to drink and informed her of what Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said.’
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 4 pg. 128, Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 646, volume: 18, Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 858, Musnadush Shamiyyin, Hadith: 1646)
‘Allamah ‘Azizi (rahimahullah) has graded the Hadith sound (hasan).
(As Sirajul Munir, vol. 1 pg. 142. Also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 3 pg. 119 and vol. 4 pg. 325)
The Hadith is further corroborated by a Hadith recorded in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told Sayyiduna Sa’d that he will be rewarded for feeding his spouse a morsel of food. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 56, 3936 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1628)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
