A narration in Tirmidhi

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I believe Imam Tirmidhi in his terminology refers to a Hadith being Da’if using the terminology Gharib. I was wondering if the following Hadith is weak?

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi has not necessarily declared it weak. However, he is pointing out the fact that this text is reported more authentically as the statement of the Sahabi rather than as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)

Some Muhaddithun have preferred that, whilst others have still declared the version in question as authentic, since all the narrators are reliable.
