Removing shoes at the Masjid

What is status of following narration and is it suitable to quote?

تفقدوا نعالكم عند أبواب المساجد

Answer

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 7 pg. 269)

However, the Muhaddithun have declared this narration unreliable. It is therefore not suitable to quote.

(Refer: Lisanul Mizan, vol. 1 pg. 484, number: 548, Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 3344)

Translation

Remove your shoes at the doors of the Masjid (i.e before entering the Masjid).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
