Oppressive leaders and caution against assisting them

Is this Hadith reliable?

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi and Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn ‘Ujrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). They have declared the Hadith authentic.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2259, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 279)

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith with slight variation in the wording.

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 4 pg. 243)

Translation

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Listen, have you heard that after me there will be [oppressive and corrupt] leaders. Whoever enters upon them and condones their lies, supports their oppression, then he is not from me and I am not from him, and he shall not drink from the pond [of Kawthar]. Whoever does not enter upon them, nor does he assist in their oppression, nor condones their lies, then he is from me, and I am from him and he shall drink from the pond [of Kawthar].”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
