Meaning of Mahram

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the definition of a Mahram according to the Quran, Hadith, and explanation of mufassirun?

Answer

A Mahram is generally a person whom one cannot marry.

The Fuqaha (Jurists) are the ones who have explained the term ‘Mahram’ and the various types -in light of Quran and Hadith- and it is therefore best to refer to a fiqh site, or a reliable mufti/Darul ifta for more details.
