The du’a of Dawud (‘alayhis salam) asking for Allah Ta’ala’s love

Can you please provide the reference and Arabic text for this supplication:

O Allah, I ask you for your love and the love of those who love you and the love of those deeds that will bring me your love. O Allah, make your love more beloved to me than myself, my family and even cold water

Answer

Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Dawud (‘alayhis salam) would make the following du’a:

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3490. Declared sound by Imam Tirmidhi)

Transliteration

Allahumma inni asaluka hubbaka wa hubba may yuhibbuka wal ‘amalaladhi yuballighuni hubbak.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
