The Weight of the deeds of the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhu)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is the following narration sahih, and is it true the Prophet (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said this to Khalid ibn Walid (radiyallahu’anhu) after a dispute with ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (radiyallahu’anhu)?

“Do not curse my Companions! Do not curse my Companions! I swear by Him in Whose hand my life is that, even if one among you had as much gold as Mount Uhud and spent it in the way of Allah, this would not be equal in reward to a few handfuls (1 Mudd) of them or even to half of that.”
