The Sahabi whose conveyance was brought back to life through du’a

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Please quote the incident (and its reference) of the Sahabi (radiyallahu’anhu) whose donkey died, and it was brought back to life through du’ a.

Answer

Sayyiduna Shayban An-Nakha’i (radiyallahu’anhu) went on an expedition in the era of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu). While on journey his donkey died. His companions offered to help with his luggage but he refused. He made wudu, read salah and then stood by its head and recited the following du’a:

O Allah! I surrendered to you willingly, I set out in your path by my own choice in search of your pleasure. My donkey was an aid for me and it kept me independent of the people. [O Allah] Support me [once again] with it and bring it back to life. [O Allah] Do not let me be indebted to anyone beside You.

The donkey shook it’s head and got up. He then loaded his luggage and rejoined his party.

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has declared this incident authentic (sahih).

When one has complete reliance on Allah Ta’ala, even the seemingly impossible becomes possible.
