The famous du’a read whilst making wudu:
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي، وَوَسِّعْ لِي فِي دَارِي، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي رِزْقِي
Allahummagh fir li dhambi wa wassi’ li fi dari wa barik li fi rizqi.
Is this in the Hadith or is it a du’a from the pious? When should this du’a be recited? i.e whilst washing a specific limb or anytime whilst making wudu?
Answer
This du’a has been reported from Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) with different wordings.
The Muhaddithun have differed in their preferred versions.
Some versions mention that this du’a was recited during wudu -without specifying any particular limb-
(Ibnus Sunni, Hadith: 28)
While some have mentioned it for before wudu, i.e, after reciting bismillah.
(Al-Hisnul Hasin, pg.63)
‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) has mentioned that Nasai (rahimahullah) was inclined to it being a recital for after wudu.
(Al-Adhkar, Hadith: 81)
Some have even mentioned this du’a for after Salah.
(Nataijul Afkar, vol.1 pg. 263 and Kitabud du’a of Tabarani, Hadith: 656. Also see Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.10 pg.109)
One may recite this before wudu, during or after wudu or even after Salah.
I personally prefer to recite it during wudu and after Salah as well.
