Among the last people to enter Jannah…

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Can you please give the reference for the following Hadith:

The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said that on the Last Day, when the last two souls are brought forth before Allah, they will both be condemned to hell. As the angels escort them to their final fiery abode, one of them wistfully looks back. Thereupon, Allah Ta’ala will command the angels to bring him back and ask the man why he turned back. The man will reply, “I was expecting you to admit me into Jannah.” The angels will then be commanded to take him to Jannah.

Answer

This Hadith is reported by Sayyiduna Fadalah ibn ‘Ubayd and Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah ibn Samit (radiyallahu’anhuma) and is recorded in Musnad Ahmad with a slightly weak chain that is still suitable for matters like these.

(Musnad Ahmad, vol.5 pg.330 & vol.6 pg.21. Also see Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.10 pg.384)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
