The deed that earned Bilal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) a lofty place in Jannah

I once read a Hadith that Sayyiduna Bilal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) would be in Jannah because he was always in wudu (ablution) and would always perform it again if it broke.

What is the reference for this?

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to Bilal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) at the time of Fajr Salah, “Bilal, tell me that action that you have done since entering Islam which gives you reason to have high hope for I heard the sound of your sandals ahead of me in Jannah.” Bilal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “I have not done any such action except that whenever I make wudu during the night or day I perform Salah, as much as is ordained for me with that wudu.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1149 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2458)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
