Is there any Hadith which mentions that the Sahabah (radayallahu ‘anhum) made salam again after walking round a tree?
Answer
1) Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘When one of you meets his brother he should greet him, if a tree, wall or rock comes in between them and they meet again, then they should greet once again’.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5158)
This narration has also been reported as the statement of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5158 and Al Adabul Mufrad of Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah), Hadith: 1010)
2) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports: ‘If a tree had to intervene between us when we were with Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), we would greet each other again when we met’.
(Tabarani in Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 7987)
‘Allamah Mundhiri, Hafiz Ibn Hajar and Hafiz Haythami (rahimahumullah) have classified this Hadith as sound (hasan).
