Is it possible to mention the full Hadith regarding Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordering the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) to carry out seven deeds?

Answer

The complete Hadith is as follows:

Sayyiduna Al Bara ibn ‘Azib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordered us to do seven deeds and forbade us from doing the following seven deeds:

He ordered us to:

  1. Attend a funeral
  2. Visit the sick
  3. Accept an invitation
  4. Assist the oppressed
  5. Help the person who took an oath to fulfil his oath
  6. Reply the greeting (salam)
  7. Reply to the one [who praises Allah] after sneezing [by saying ‘YarhamukAllah’]

And he forbade us from:

  1. Wearing gold rings [for males]
  2. Drinking from [pure] silver utensils
  3. Using saddle blankets made of silk
  4. Wearing garments that have silk threads
  5. Wearing silk
  6. Wearing fine silk
  7. Wearing coarse silk [prohibition of all types of silk for males]
