A Du’a of ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

Can you mention the reference of this du’a of Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Al Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu)?

“O Allah! I am indeed harsh, so make me gentle, I am weak, so make me strong, and I am miserly so make me generous.”

Answer

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded this du’a of Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Al Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 1 pg. 53. Also see: Al Kuna Wal Asma of Imam Dulabi, vol. 2 pg. 666)

The Arabic text of the du’a:

اللهُمَّ إِنِّي غَلِيظٌ فَلَيِّنِّي، وَشَحِيحٌ فَسَخِّنِي، وَضَعِيفٌ فَقَوِّنِي

Allahumma inni ghalizun falay yinni wa shahihun fa sakkhi ni wa da’ifun faqawwini

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
