Is this narration reliable?

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). He has declared the Hadith sound (hasanun gharib).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3708)

Translation

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was once mentioned a great trial/tribulation to come. He then said, ‘This person i.e. ‘Uthman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) will be slain oppressively in that trial.
