‘To be given a little ability to do good deeds is better than having a lot of knowledge’

Is this a Hadith?

قليل من التوفيق خير من كثير من العلم

Answer

‘Allamah Subki and ‘Allamah ‘Iraqi (rahimahumallah) state that they have not come across any basis for this as a Hadith.

(Tabaqatush Shafi’iyyah, vol. 6 pg. 288, Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 83. Also see: Al Masnu’, Hadith: 218)

Translation

To be given a little ability to do [good deeds] is better than having a lot of knowledge.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
