Answer

Imam Tirmidhi and Imam Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith. Imam Tirmidhi has declared the Hadith sound (hasan).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3701, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pg. 63)

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) came to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) with one thousand dinars -one version states ‘with one thousand dinars in his sleeve’- when Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was preparing for the Battle of Tabuk. He placed them into the lap of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Sayyiduna ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Samurah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, ‘I saw Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) turning them over in his lap and said twice, ‘Whatever ‘Uthman does after today will not harm him.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
