Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) on the trials and tribulations to come

What is the authenticity of this narration?

Trials in Din will come after you. In these trials and tribulations, wealth will be in great abundance and the Quran will be opened until even a believer, a hypocrite, a man, a woman, a child and an adult, a slave and a free person will all open the Quran [assuming they are qualified and can deduce laws]. A person will say, “What is the matter with people? Why do they not follow me, whereas I have studied the Quran? They will not follow me until I do not contrive and innovate something different for them.” Beware of their innovations, for what they have innovated is misguidance.

Answer

Imams Abu Dawud, ‘Abdur Razzaq and Hakim have recorded this statement of Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sunan Abi Dawud. Hadith: 4596, Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 20750 and Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 460)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
