Is the following a Hadith?
“O people, make piety your trade and your sustenance will come to you without goods or commerce”
Answer:
Imam Tabarani and Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with a very weak chain.
(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 190, volume: 20 and Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 6 pg. 96. Refer: Tahdhibut Tahdhib, vol. 4 pg. 281 and Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 2 pg. 165 -number: 3192-)
However this principle is proven in the Holy Quran. Allah Ta’ala says:
“Whomsoever fears Allah [adopts Taqwa], Allah will make a way for him [out of difficulties] and shall provide for him [sustenance] from sources he never expected”
(Surah Talaq, verse: 2 and 3)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
