What is the grade of the following Hadith?
Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anu) went out one day to the masjid of the Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and he found Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal sitting by the grave of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), weeping. He said: ‘Why are you weeping?’ Sayyiduna Mu’adh replied: ‘I am weeping because of something that I heard from the Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). I heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say:
‘A little showing off is polytheism (shirk) and whoever shows enmity towards a friend of Allah has declared war on Allah. Allah loves those who are righteous, pious and (outwardly) lowly -those who if they are absent, are not missed, and if they are present, are not acknowledged-. Their hearts are lamps of guidance and they come out from every dark place (ie. from every trial and tribulation)’
Answer
Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration. Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration in Al Mustadrak with a different chain. He has classified this Hadith as authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has concurred.
