Hadith on living with the polytheists

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the authenticity of the hadith that says:

I disavow myself of those who settle amongst the mushrikeen

Is this sahih or weak?

Answer

1) This Hadith is reported by Sayyiduna Jarir ibn ‘Abdillah (radiyallahu’anhu) and is recorded in the following Hadith references:

Sunan Abi Dawud, hadith: 2638, Sunan Tirmidhi, hadith: 1604 & Al-Mu’jamul Kabir of Tabarani, hadith: 2264-2265.

Hafiz Ibn Daqiqil ‘Eid (rahimahullah) has declared this Hadith as acceptable.

(Al-Badrul Munir, vol.9 pg.164)

2) Imam Tabarni has also recorded one version on the authority of Sayyiduna Khalid ibn Walid (radiyallahu’anhu)

(Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, hadith: 3836)

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of this chain as reliable.

(Majma’uz zawaid, vol.5 pg.253)

Note: The reason for this prohibition is so that the Muslims do not become affected with the ways of the Polytheists, as a result of residing in their neighborhoods.
(Badhlul Majhud)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
