What does the Hadith “Do Not Single out any specific night for Ibadat” mean?

The hadith you refer to is in Sahih Muslim, hadith: 1144
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) said:
Do not specify the night preceding Friday with any special form of worship…
Since the shari’ah has declared Friday as the best day of the week, and it has also already prescribed several deeds for the day and night of Friday, one might have an urge to do additional deeds that haven’t been sanctioned. This habit leads to innovation and is therefore discouraged.
