Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah)’s Al ‘Ujab Fi Bayanil Asbab

I was reading  Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani’s Al ‘Ujab Fi Bayanil Asbab (regarding the reasons of revelation of the different verses of the Holy Quran), and I wanted to ask what his methodology is in this book with regards to the hadiths he cites in it? Are all of the hadiths he cites in there acceptable according to him, are they all at least of a certain degree or higher according to him?

Answer

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has basically based this book of his on Al Wahidi’s ‘Asbabun Nuzul’, quoting the Hadiths that Al Wahidi has cited. He often mentions the grade of the Hadiths. There is no blanket ruling on all of the narrations. The grade of those narrations which he has chosen to keep silent about will have to be viewed individually.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
