Dua after the completion of Tarawih

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

If one attends Tarawih the whole of Ramadan as a muqtadi, at the end of the recitation of the whole Qur’an, does only the Imam’s du’a be accepted since he rotated rak’ahs each night to recite the Qur’an or is it permissible for the muqtadi’s to also include some personal du’as of their own in it?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahamtullahi wa barakatuhu,

All the laws of recitation which apply to the Imam in Tarawih equally apply to the Muqtadi. For example, if the Imam reads a verse of Sajda, just as Sajda is compulsory on him, Sajda is also compulsory on the Muqtadi. Similarly, if the Imam makes a mistake in Qira’ah which invalidates his prayer, the prayer of the Muqtadi also gets affected. In the same way, when the Imam completes the Quran, the Muqtadi equally gets the full benefit, and thus, he may include his own duas, and whatever duas he makes on his own will also all be accepted, insha Allah.
