Credit card

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Asalam OAlekum

I have a credit card which I used for home shopping such as groceries etc. But, I pay back quickly and never had any interest paid until now. There is an interest free duration of 55 days if paid then no interest charge. I know interest is haram so I pay back within days and never had any interest paid alhamdulliah.
My question is that is it still permissible for me to keep the credit card because I don’t pay any interest but only the annual bank fee?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Yes, it is permissible to use a credit card if you are positive that you will manage to pay the amount back in full before the due date. As such, you should keep your credit limit to an amount that is reasonable and within your means to pay back. It is preferable to also maintain an auto payment, so that you are sure not to mistakenly fall into any interest transactions.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,
