Salaam Alaykum!
Ya shaykh is wiping ears obligatory in wudoo? I ask because my ear hurts and water touching it make it worse. What to do?

Answer
Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
It is not obligatory to wipe the ears in Wudhu. If it causes you difficulty, you may omit the wiping of the ears in Wudhu.
However, in Ghusl, it will be necessary to wash the ears.

ومن السنّة: مسح الأذنين بالماء الذي يمسح به الرأس، ولا يأخذ لهما ماءً جديداً، وقال الشافعي: يأخذ لهما ماءً جديداً؛ لأنهما عضوان منفصلان؛ ولهذا كان مسح الرأس فرضاً ومسح الأذنين سنّة، ولا يكتفى فيها بماء واحد كالمضمضة والاستنشاق مع غسل الوجه، ولنا قوله عليه السلام: «الأذنان من الرأس» والمراد بيان الحكم لا بيان الحقيقة؛ لأنه مشاهد ولا حكم لجعل الأذنان فيه من الرأس إلا ما قلنا (المحيط البرهاني – 1/ 22)
