I am a 56 year old women and have recently found out that my name “Ruksana” has no meaning according to various Islamic name books.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I know that it is not good to keep a name with a bad meaning or with no meaning… Please advise me as to whether I can change my name now… and how do I go about doing this – is it the same as naming a baby? Also I am a Hajee, how does this affect me in any way? Is it advisable for me to change my name?

Answer

Rukhsaana means gentle, soft, kind. (Lisaanul Arab) It will be advisable to keep this name.
