Meaning of a few names for a baby boy

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Salaam Mufti Sb,

Could you please let me know the meaning of following baby boy names:
1) Affaan
2) Iyaas
3) Ziyaad
4) Adnaan
5) UTBAAN (عتبان)
6) UTBAAH (عتبہ)
7) TAMEEM
8) Uzair

Additionally I would like to know if a name pronunciation has ‘difficult to pronounce Arabic letters’ such as “ع”, “ح”, “ق” and the people pronounce them as “k”, “h”, “a” respectively. So does this kind of pronunciation has any impact on child/person as I heard that names have effect on child/person.

Jazakallah

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu,

Hereunder are the meanings:

عفان – ‘Affaan – Extremely chaste and pure,

إياس  – Iyyaas – One blessed with alot of goodness,

زياد – Ziyaad – Super abundance (of good)

عدنان – ‘Adnaan – Staying forever – the forefather of Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and all the Arabs in North Arabia,

عتبان ‘Utbaan – Lightning,

عتبة – ‘Utba – The area between a valley, happiness,

تميم – Tameem – Perfect, complete,

عزير – ‘Uzair – A prophet

If non Arabs mispronounce names, it will, insha Allah, not have any adverse effect.
