When entering home what foot should you enter with and with what foot should you leave with? Please provide reference when answering. Jazakallah

Answer

In regards to your question it is masnun to enter or to leave your house with your right foot first. Imam Abu Ala Hasan Ibn Ahmad al-Hamazani, a great scholar of Hadith of his time, was so keen on applying this Sunnah to the extent that if someone entered his house with their left foot first, he would ask them to go out and re-enter with their right foot first. (Islamic Manners by Shaykh Abdul-Fattah Abu Ghuddah (RA).

There isn’t a Hadith, which clearly says that one should enter the house with one’s right foot. However as this is a good action and The Prophet of Allah (SAW) used to start everything from the right for good things, hence it is a etiquette (adab) to enter the house with the right foot.

It is narrated by Sayyidah Aishah (RA) that: The Prophet of Allah (SAW) used to start everything from the right (for good things) whenever it was possible in all his affairs, for example in washing, combing or wearing shoes.” (Sahih Bukhari p61 v1)

Incidentally Imam Bukhari (RA) bought this Hadith to prove the desirability to enter the mosque with the right foot.
