Name pet muslim name

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
Is it permissible to name one’s pet a Muslim name? May Allah (S.W.T) reward you.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

We could not find an explicit mention of this issue in any of the books at our disposal. However, since Muslims name themselves with the name of the Prophets, the Sahaba and other pious people, it will not be correct to name animals with ‘Muslim’ names, as doing so would mean disrespecting these great people. It is however permissible to name one’s pet using a generic Arabic word.

And Allah knows best.
