Performance of Jumuah khutbah and salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. Please enlighten me on the manner in which Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A.) conducted the performance of Jumuah khutbah and salaah from the time of the Azaan to the tasleem. Additionally state if there were any differences as to how the Prophet (S.A.W.S.) conducted the same.

A. The manner of doing the Jumuah khutba and Salaah according to Imam Abu Hanifa is exactly the manner which has been explained in the Ahadeeth and adopted by all the Sahabahs, Tabieen and early scholars. First of all, the Azan is called for Salaah in its correct time after Zawaal. At this time, one will perform their Tahiyatul Masjid, and the Sunnah Salaah. After this, the Azan is given in front of the Imam after he sits on the mimbar. Upon the completion of the Azan, the Imam will stand and deliver one Arabic Khutba. Then he will sit after this and then stand again to deliver the other Arabic Khutba. When the second Khutba ends, the Imam will then go into performing the two Farz Salaah of Jumuah. After the Farz Salaah, one will perform the other Sunnah Salaah.

Wherever the Muslims are and can understand the Arabic language, then they will be able to understand the direct Arabic khutbas that are given on the mimbar. However, where they do not understand the Arabic language, then the Imam may give a lecture in the local language before the official khutba. This is done so that the khutba remains in the Arabic language.

And Allah knows best.
