Nursing and fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Assalaam alaikum

I have a 15 month old child who is still nursing a lot and eats less. I am keeping the fast but today I have realized the milk isn’t coming as it normally does so he is constantly nursing. My question is, is it still compulsory to keep the fast or can I skip a day in between?

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

The fasting of Ramadhan will still be compulsory upon you. However, if you realize that you are encountering problems nursing the baby, as you have mentioned, then you will be allowed to miss the fast, but make up for the missed ones after Ramadhan. Therefore, if skipping a day in between will help this problem, then you can do this, but you must make up for the missed day afterwards.

And Allah Knows Best.
