Am i considered a traveller? Do i have to fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

My mother is going to Canada for 3 months. She will be there for the entire month of Ramdhan. Is she considered a musafir and is allowed to miss her Fasting and when she comes back then she makes it up or does she have to fast there? The reason I ask is because she is an aged person and the hours of Fasting in Canada would be much longer than here in Trinidad.

As Salaam Alaikum.

If after arriving in Canada she stays at any (one) place for fifteen days or more, then she will not be regarded as a Musafir. This means that she will be required to observe the fast over there.

If while staying in Canada, she does not stay at any one place for fifteen days (or more), but she moves from one place (location) to another, staying by different family and friends, then in this case, she will be regarded as a Musafir and she will be allowed to miss her fast and make it up at a time when she is no longer a Musafir.

And Allah Knows Best.
