Performing Tahajjud Salaah.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:

What is the correct way in performing Tahajjud Salaah? Is it in 4 rakaats or 2 rakaats, and which surahs can be recited. Are there any specific surahs or not. And up to how many rakaats of Tahajjud Salaah can be performed?

Answer:

The correct way of performing Tahajjud Salaah is that it should be read in two’s i.e. (2 rakaats instead of 4 rakaats). There are no specific surahs to be recited in these rakaats. A person has a choice to read long surahs or short ones.

The custom of the Prophet (S.A.S.) was that he would usually perform 8 rakaats of Tahajjud Salaah, however it is also evident that at times he would read up to 12 rakaats. As such one can read up to 12 rakaats in two’s.

And Allah knows best.
