Are Bangs Permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DaruliftaaZambia.com

Question

Assalamu Alaikum,

Respected Mufti sahib,

May i please know the Islamic ruling regarding bangs.

Jazakum Allah Khair ,

WaSalam

Answer

It is impermissible for a woman to cut her hair. [1] Hence, bangs[2] are not allowed in Sharī’ah. Furthermore, bangs are a common practice amongst celebrities and non-Muslim women. We as Muslims are averse to such practices that are synonymous with such people who are in constant violation of the laws of Allāh. It is not permissible to practice such trends.[3]

Checked and Approved by,

Mufti Nabeel Valli.

[2] Bangs (also called a fringe) are a shaped cutting of the front part of the hair so that it lies over the forehead. Classic bangs are cut straight at or above the eyebrows, but they can also be ragged or ruffled, spiked up with hair gel, swept to one side or the other, or cut longer to fall over the eyes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_%28hair%29
