How do you know if your wife loves you?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
The answer to your question depends on the relationship between the couple. A husband will either experience or see something in his wife, which shows her true love for the husband. There are no general principles or guidelines that a person can use which shows that his wife loves him.
However there are guidelines laid down by the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam in which a good wife can be judged:
A good wife is one who suppresses all her desires for her husband, preferring him above herself and sacrificing her own pleasures for him. She would even be prepared to lay down to sleep on the bed of thorns her husband provides, imagining it to be a bed of roses.
Shaikh Muhammad Haneef Abdul Majeed in “Tohfa-e-Dulhan” has written:
“Dear Wives! Regard the dry bread he gives you to be a delicious meat from Jannah and imagine the old clothes to be finery and jewellery…
Keep smiling through all the difficulties. Pass your life with tolerance and contentment” (p.15).
The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam once said that the pious wife is one:
- Who obeys her husband when he instructs her
- She pleases him (her husband) when he looks at her
- She fulfils his oath when he swears an oath (that she should do something within the bounds of Shariah)
- And when he is out, she safeguards her chastity and his wealth (Sunnan Ibn Majah p.133 v.1)
In another hadith, once the companions asked the Prophet of Allah Sallalahu Alahi Wasalam that they would like to know what form of wealth is best to have. He, Sallalhu Alaihi Wasalm replied “The best wealth is a tongue that engages in Zikr, the heart that is grateful and a Mu’minah wife who assists her husband in his Imaan (faith)”. (At-Targheeb-Wat-Tarheeb p.198 v.2).
