Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Who are the Wahaabis?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Hazrat Moulana Manzuur Ahmed Saheb has written that “Sheikh Abdul Wahaab Najdi was a 13th century scholar and his followers are called ‘Wahaabis’. Sheikh was a very good person. His beliefs and views were in accordance to the mainstream Ahle-Sunnat Wal-Jamaat. He was also a follower of the Hanbali School of Thought. Nowadays his followers who call themselves Salafi’s are very extreme in religious matters and issues even to the extent that they say bad things about the four Imams. (Imam Abu Hanifah (RA), Imam Shafee (RA), Imam Malik (RA) and Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal (RA).”
