Question:

Assalamualykum. Can a person sell cakes and biscuits which have pics on them? the pictures will be eaten and the figures. there was a fatwa does anyone still have it

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is always best to refrain from impermissible actions in Islam to one’s utmost ability and pictures of animate objects are not permissible in Islam, however, if the purpose of the item is not the picture and it is just an added feature it will be permissible to sell it like a newspaper for example or a book[1]. Similarly, the cakes and biscuits which are for consuming primarily and not keeping for displaying the picture will be permissible, however, if you have other options for example if it is your own patisserie and you can avoid pictures you should as much as possible and substitute it for inanimate objects perhaps.

Only Allah knows best
