If One Tastes Drink on the Saliva Whilst Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question

I was making up a fast for Ramadhan and I finished my Sehri on time. However, I had a drink at Sehri which changed the color of my tongue. Obviously, I did swallow saliva from time to time during the day. Will my fast still be counted or will I need to make it up due to the effects of the drink on my tongue?

In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Answer

In such a situation, the fast will be valid if the taste of the drink did not reach the stomach. If the taste did reach the stomach, the fast will be nullified and it will be necessary to make up (do qadha) of it. (Raddul Muhtar, 395/3).
