Do I Have To Make a Dua After Every Prayer

Question

Do I have to make a dua after every prayer? Can I make a Dua after only one prayer?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah has given us many opportunities of time where we can make Dua and that dua will be more quickly accepted compared to other times. Any Dua made after fardh Salaat is quickly accepted by Allah, the Prophet s.a.w. was once asked, “Which Dua is more quickly answered?” He s.a.w. answered,” Dua during the middle of the night and after compulsory Salaat.”[1]

The virtues and encouragement of Dua and Azkaar are too numerous to list in this Fatwah, but no compulsory time or amount has been suggested, therefore making Dua after any Salaat is definitely virtuous, even if a person desires to do it after one Salaat or all Salaat there will be no harm involved.

It is acknowledged that for such optional acts, we are encouraged to perform them as often and as abundant as possible.

Only Allah knows best
