Is It Permissible To Work in an Amazon Warehouse

Question

Is it permissible to work in an Amazon warehouse?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Based on the job descriptions on the website, working in an Amazon warehouse is permissible. As for the fact of carrying and transporting impermissible items then this is not an issue as the jurists have indicated that a person should not be “directly” assisting in sin. That means that it should not be such where the person is encouraging or helping others in sin. Moving, labeling, or packaging impermissible things is not the same as motivating others to do/use it.

In conclusion, it is permissible to work in an Amazon warehouse. If a person is asked to package an item that is haram then it would be permissible, but you should still do some istighfar for it (Muftī Shafī Usmānī, Tafsīl al-Kalām fī Masalah al-I’ānah ‘alā al-Ḥarām, Page 23-24).
