Question:

If a person has a university exam that he cannot miss or delay it to another date and this university exam is at the time of Jummah then what should the person do about the khutba of jummah and the salah of jummah.

If the student misses the university exam, they fail the whole subject automatically.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In universities students usually come to know of their exam timetable in advance. They should try to apply for ‘special circumstances’, ‘special consideration’, or ‘alternative exam arrangements’ and thus have their exam time changed.

I

f the timing of the exam is such that it does not cover the times during which Jumuah is performed in the various Masjids in the city, then they may attend the exam and perform Jumuah at a Masjid which prays it at a later time or it has two Jumuahs (congregations) at different times. Most universities have associations for Muslim students which should be used to gather support and act as a voice for Muslim students before university administrations to ensure their studies do not encroach upon their religious obligations. Thus, attending a university exam does not constitute a valid excuse to miss Jumuah.[1]
