Question

Does paying zakat actually purify one’s wealth?

In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Answer

Zakah literally means purity, honesty, etc. when Zakah is paid the wealth will undoubtedly be purified.  Mufti Shafi sahib in the commentary of the ayah number 103 in surah Taubah says “A person by paying Zakah becomes purified from sins and from the evils of the moral ailments which creep in due to the greed of wealth.”  (Ma’ariful Quran, pg. 457,  vol.4)

Only Allah knows best.
