Question

Fritolay products with beef cheese enzymes are made on the same lines as that of pork they say “Very few of our cheeses are made with porcine(pork) enzymes and they are run on the same lines as other seasoned snacks. Only non-seasoned snacks are made on thoroughly sanitized lines. Although we make every effort to mitigate issues for cross-contact with seasoning ingredients, we are not able to speculate or provide additional advice. “so can we eat their products? does this make their products haram i.e sinful to we eat? Or is it just that precaution is preferable? (makruh)

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Answer

In regards to your question there needs to be certainty in what we consume and not speculation. Therefore, without any certainty, we can’t say whether it is unlawful or lawful. However, out of precaution, one should leave it out.

On the authority Abi Ab’dillahi Al-Nu’man Ibn Basheer who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: “That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear and between the two of them are doubtful [or ambiguous] matters about which not many people are knowledgeable. Thus, he who avoids these doubtful matters certainly clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor. But he who falls into the doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Verily every king has a sanctuary and Allah’s sanctuary is His prohibition. In the body, there is a morsel of flesh which, if it is sound, all the body is sound and which, if it is diseased, all the body is diseased. This part of the body is the heart”. [Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim]
