Question

Assalamu alaikum,

Can I please ask a masala?

Can women do a second umrah whilst in Makkah by themselves if the mahram is not well or any other reason and he cannot do a second umrah so he stays in the hotel?

Answer:

The Prophet is reported to have said: “A woman should not travel for more than three days except with a maḥram.[1] Most scholars have held the opinion that this is equal to the distance of 16 farsakh, which is roughly equivalent to 48 miles.[2]

If the journey for the first ʻumrah was taken with a maḥrām, and the maḥram is unable to join on the second one and stays at the hotel, that would be acceptable as long as the woman does not travel a distance greater than 48 miles to reach a location (such as al-Tanʻīm or al-Jiʻrānah) to put on the iḥrām.
